Texas Tech's Davis College of Agricultural Sciences hosted a college and community-focused service event in conjunction with their week-long celebration of agriculture. Ag Week at Texas Tech began on September 11, 2023. The end of the celebration is recognized by the Texas Tech Ag Game against Tarleton State.

The Davis College service day projects included; assisting the Lubbock ISD agriculture department with clean up at their livestock facility, gifting the residents of the Carillon Retirement Community with plants grown in our greenhouse, and cleaning up and beautification of the New Deal Beef Center, livestock arena, equestrian center and the Natural Resource Management Department's rangeland.

Thanks to Tom's Tree Place, students were able to brighten the day of many Carillon residents through delivery of plants. All the plants had been grown in the Plant and Soil Science Department greenhouse.

One of the residents, Mr. Earl Brown, is a graduate of Texas Tech University's Agronomy Department which is now known as the Plant and Soil Science Department. Mr. Brown was reminiscent of his time at Texas Tech and shared that all four of his children are Red Raiders as are nine of his ten grandchildren.

280 Students

1297 Service Hours

Two hundred and eighty students showed up to support the Davis College service day initiative, plus around 20 faculty and staff members who helped lead the initiative.

As we move towards our college-wide goal of leading the University in community service hours, we're extremely proud to announce our students added nearly 1300 hours to the list just through one day of service.
